Introduction
Milling is one of the most common machining methods. This method involves rough, semi-finished and finished treatment of simple and shaped surfaces of steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals and plastics blanks.
Milling machines are designed for milling the surfaces of strips, levers, covers, housings and brackets of simple configuration; complex configuration loops (such as cams, patterns, etc.) surfaces of housing parts. The machining capabilities of mills are determined by the design, layout, precision class of the machine, and technical characteristics of the NC system.
Milling is characterized by high productivity and allows you to obtain surfaces of regular geometric shape. Using cutters equipped with modern cutting materials (synthetic ultra-hard, mineraloceramics), milling can treat materials hardened to high hardness (60HRC3), replacing grinding.
Milling machines are designed for machining with the help of a milling mill flat and shaped surfaces, gear wheels, etc., metal and other blanks. At the same time, the cutter, fixed in the spindle of the milling machine, makes a rotational (main) movement, and the workpiece, fixed on the table, performs a straight or curvilinear feed movement (sometimes carried out simultaneously by a rotating tool). Control can be manual, automated, or NC system.
