Wheelsets

Wheelsets belong to the running gear and are one of the responsible elements of the car. They are designed to direct the movement of the car along the rail track and perceive all loads transmitted from the car to the rails during their rotation. Working in difficult loading conditions, wheelsets should provide high reliability, since train safety largely depends on them. Therefore, they are subject to special, increased requirements of the Gosstandart, Rules for the technical operation of railways, Instructions for the inspection, repair and formation of wagon wheel pairs, as well as other regulatory documents for design, manufacture and maintenance. The design and technical condition of wheelsets have an influence on the smoothness of travel, the amount of forces arising during the interaction of the car and the track, and resistance to movement

Working in modern modes of railway operation and extreme environmental conditions, the wheeled pair of the car should meet the following main requirements: have sufficient strength, while having a minimum unsprung mass in order to reduce the container of rolling stock and reduce the direct impact on the rail track and the elements of the car when passing the irregularities of the rail track; have some elasticity, which reduces the level of noise and softens the tremors arising from the movement of the car along the rail track; together with axle box units provide possibly less resistance during carriage movement and possibly more resistance to wear of elements subjected to wear in operation
