Development of Job Instruction for Repair of GAS53 Car Connecting Rod under CMM Conditions

1. Theoretical information about repair of the connecting rod of the GAZ53 car.

Connecting rod connects piston with crankshaft. It transforms the reciprocating motion of the piston into the rotational motion of the crankshaft. The main parts of the connecting rod are an upper head with a bronze bushing pressed into it, a rod and a lower head with a cover.

The connecting rod experiences large loads, varying in size and direction. It undergoes compression, bending and stretching. To withstand such loads, the connecting rod must be strong, rigid and light to reduce inertia forces. The connecting rod is stamped from steel and subjected to heat treatment (hardening and tempering); its rod has an I-section to increase strength.

The connecting rod makes a complex movement: the upper head together with the piston moves reciprocally, turning by a certain angle relative to the finger or together with the finger relative to the piston bosses, the lower head rotates together with the connecting rod journal of the crankshaft; rod of connecting rod makes oscillatory movements.

The lower head of the connecting rod and the cover are stretched together to obtain a hole of regular cylindrical shape. Therefore, the cover cannot be turned over or moved to other connecting rods. On the connecting rods and covers on one side put the necessary marks for this. Sliding bearings are installed in lower heads of connecting rods.

The lower head of the connecting rod is somewhat asymmetrical relative to the axis of the rod, which is done to ensure the stop of two connecting rods in the tie-rod of the crankshaft. On the lower head of the connecting rod there is a small hole for supplying oil to the walls of the cylinder.
