Brief description of the purpose and main technical characteristics of the base machine
The 6M12P cantilever machine replaced the obsolete 6N12P model in production and was replaced with a more advanced 6P12 model.
Vertical cantilever cutters of models 6M12P and 6M12BP are electrified machines with high accuracy and rigidity.
Cantilever-milling machine 6M12P is designed for milling all kinds of parts made of steel, cast iron and non-ferrous metals with end, cylindrical, end, radius milling cutters in individual and serial production conditions. In mass production, thanks to the presence of semi-automatic and automatic cycles, machines can be successfully used in operations of an operational nature in flow and automatic lines.
On 6M12P machines, vertical and horizontal planes, slots, angles, gear wheels, etc. can be machined. Milling of gears, turns, spirals, contours of cams and other parts requiring periodic or continuous rotation around their axis is carried out on these machines on the use of a dividing head or an overhead round table.
Due to the presence of the play selection mechanism in the helical pair of the longitudinal supply of the table, counter and parallel milling can be carried out on the 6M12P machine, both in simple modes and in modes with automatic cycles.
The most efficient use of the machine is achieved when machining parts using high-speed milling
Design of NC Metal Cutting Machine Drive Structure
2.1 Development and brief description of the structure of the drives of the designed machine
The drive of the main movement of the machine, which is being upgraded in this project, will be equipped with an asynchronous electric motor with a frequency converter. Speed adjustment of the spindle rotation will be carried out by a modernized gearbox. The purpose of the project is to modernize the machine, the speed box will be combined with the spindle head, as in the base machine 6M12PB.
Modernization of the drive of the main movement of the machine consists in restructuring the existing drive structure by changing the gear ratios between the gears and preserving the structural and standard elements of the base machine. Due to stepless control, the number of gears and, accordingly, gears is reduced, the values of the control frequencies will be located in the calculated range.

In course work, work was carried out to modernize the drive of the main movement of the 6M12PB machine. The rebuilt gearbox received 3 horizontal shafts with changed axial distances. Basic bearings used. The frequency control range fully satisfies the project specification. Shafts and wheels are designed taking into account their strength requirements.
