7. Zero Cycle Recommendations
7.1 Winter Excavation Instructions
Considering that the zero-cycle works start in March, when the average air temperature in Nizhnevartovsk is 8.94 ° С, it is necessary to envisage measures to carry out work in winter conditions.
Excavation in winter is associated with a number of difficulties. The main ones are freezing of the soil to various depths and the presence of snow cover.
When predicting ground freezing to a depth of more than 0.4 m, it is advisable to protect the soil from freezing, in particular, by loosening the soil with single or multipoint looseners.
In some places of a small area, it is possible to protect the soil from freezing by insulation with wood residues, sawdust, peat, applying a layer of foam styrene, as well as non-woven rolled synthetic materials.
Soil thawing is carried out by heating it with steam, hot water, with the help of electric current or fire. However, all methods of heating should not seek to thaw the entire volume of frozen soil. For example, the lower part of the 1520 cm thick layer of frozen soil can be left frozen and loose when excavated by excavators. This accelerates earthworks and reduces heat consumption.
To reduce the duration of thawing of frozen soil and in order to maximize the use of the fleet of earth-moving machines in warm time, it is recommended to remove snow from the area of the future pit during the period of establishing positive temperatures.
7.2. Instructions for water reduction works
Prior to the start of water reduction works, it is necessary to examine the technical condition of buildings and structures located in the work area, as well as clarify the location of existing underground communications.
During water lowering works, measures should be provided to prevent soil decompression, as well as to disturb the stability of the slopes of the pit and the bases of nearby structures.
When using drainage from pits and trenches, filter slopes and the bottom, if necessary, should be loaded with a layer of sand and gravel material, the thickness of which is assigned in the project.
When arranging drains, excavation works should be started from discharge areas with moving towards higher elevations, and laying of pipes and filter materials - from water-section areas with moving towards discharge or pumping unit (permanent or temporary).
After the water lowering system is put into operation, pumping should be carried out continuously.
During operation of water-lowering systems in winter, insulation of pump equipment and utilities should be provided, as well as the possibility of their emptying in case of interruptions in operation.
Prior to the start of earthworks, it is necessary to ensure the removal of surface and underground water using temporary or permanent devices, without compromising the safety of existing structures.
When crossing the slope of the pit of water-resistant soils lying under the aquifer, a berm with a ditch should be made on the roof of the water stop to divert water.
When discharging underground and surface waters, flooding of structures, the formation of landslides, soil erosion, waterlogging of the area should be excluded.
