Description
Rod extension is performed due to creation of working fluid pressure in piston chamber, and return to initial position from spring force. The force created by hydraulic cylinders of this type, other things being equal, is less than the force created by hydraulic cylinders of double-sided action, due to the fact that during direct movement of the rod it is necessary to overcome the spring elastic force. The spring acts here as a return member. In cases where the return is made by the action of the actuated mechanism, another hydraulic cylinder or the gravity of the lifted load, the hydraulic cylinder may not have a return spring due to lack of necessity. This principle of operation is applied in bottle jacks.
