Introduction
The most efficient and rational means of increasing the power of an internal combustion engine is the use of gas turbine pressurization, which means the supply of air to cylinders under pressure (as a result of which the weight of air increases) due to the use of exhaust gas energy.
Modern ship diesel engines are equipped with a variety of pressurization systems. If only turbocompressors are applied to boost, then boost conditionally is called "clean" gas-turbine (gas-turbine). If, in addition to turbocompressors, additional compressors are used (for example, compressors of under-piston cavities), then such pressurization is called combined.
Both of these and other pressurization systems may include turbocompressors with constant pressure turbines or pulsed gas turbines.
In four-stroke diesel engines (main and auxiliary), a single-stage gas turbine pressurization with pulse turbines is mainly used. With such a pressurization scheme, the TC gas turbine operates on exhaust gases of variable pressure and temperature. The cylinder exhaust manifolds are grouped according to the maximum use of gas energy. This supercharging method allows the supercharging air pressure to be up to 250 kPa.
Gas turbine pressurization of two-stroke diesel engines is more difficult than four-stroke diesel engines, since in two-stroke diesel engines there is no move to eject combustion products from cylinders and more excess purge air is required to clean the cylinders, and a large gas turbine power. At the same time, the increased amount of air for blowing in two-stroke diesel engines is the reason for the lower temperature of the exhaust gases before the turbine.
Depending on the gas exchange scheme (type of blowdown), the supercharging of two-stroke diesel engines, as already noted above, may be: "clean" gas turbine or combined, which is used when the power obtained by the centrifugal compressor from the TC gas turbine is not enough to provide diesel air.
"Clean" gas turbine supercharging is performed mainly in diesel engines with direct-flow purging, where a large degree of pre-discharge can be carried out with a lower total excess air coefficient. In this case, the pressurization is implemented either according to a single-stage scheme or according to a two-stage scheme.
The objectives of the course project are: calculation of the turbocharger for pressurizing the ship's ICE of the specified type for the required parameters; determination of its geometric dimensions and performance indicators; assessing the reliability of its main elements by performing strength calculations; drawing of longitudinal section of the unit.
