Introduction

A reduction gear is a mechanism for reducing the rotation speed and increasing the rotation mechanism. The mechanism performing the inverse transformation is called an accelerator or multiplier. At speed shaft speed n < 3000 (1/min) these mechanisms are structurally of the same type .

Reduction gear is a complete mechanism connected to the engine and the working machine by clutches or elastic detachable elements. This fundamentally distinguishes it from the gear transmission embedded in the actuator. Gear or worm gears fixed on shafts are arranged in reduction gear case. Shafts rest on bearings located in the housing sockets (mainly using rolling bearings). Sliding bearings are used in special cases when the reduction gear is given increased requirements for the level of vibration and noise, at very high speeds of rotation or in the absence of a rolling bearing of the desired size.

The variety of gearboxes is great. The classification of gearboxes by type, type and design will help to navigate the whole variety of gearboxes.

The type of reduction gear is determined by the composition of the gears, the order of their placement in the direction from the high-speed shaft to the slow-speed shaft and the position of the axes of the gear wheels in space.

The most common gearboxes with shafts located in the horizontal plane. The gearbox size consists of its type and the main parameter of its slow-moving stage. For cylindrical gears, globoid and worm, the main parameter is the axial distance; planetary - carrier radius, conical - diameter of wheel dividing cone base, wave - inner mounting diameter of flexible wheel in undeformed state coinciding with flexible bearing outer mounting diameter, if used.

By execution is meant the gear ratio, the version of assembly and the shape of the ends of the shafts. If the housing changes, then the type of gearbox will also change.

The main energy characteristic of the reduction gear is the nominal moment T, which is the permissible torque on its slow-moving shaft at a constant load and at the number of cycles of the gear wheel equal to its base of contact stresses. Power should not be used in strength calculations, since it does not determine the load of the part and cannot be set regardless of the gear ratio and shaft speed. The technical level criterion is relative mass. The relative weight is almost independent of the speed of the shafts and varies relatively little depending on the type and size of the gearbox.

The main way to improve the technical level of the gearbox is to increase the hardness of the working surfaces of the teeth. With an increase in the technical level, the cost of 1 kg of gearbox weight increases, which, all other things being equal, depends on seriality. The final economic criterion is the relative cost. An individual reduction gear is cheaper to make with medium-hardness teeth than high.
