Capacity diagram for cooking a batch of starch-containing raw materials

Description

The process flow diagram was developed by staff at the Fermentation Products Research Institute.

The plant operates as follows. The mash is fed by a plunger pump to an extra-steam heater 1, where the milled grain mash is heated by secondary steam to a temperature no higher than 80-90°C. The potato mash is heated to a temperature no higher than 45°C. The mash is then fed by a plunger pump 2 to a contact head 3 for heating. The mash reaches a temperature of 138-140°C for the potato mash, and 144-150°C for the corn mash. From the contact head, the mash enters a cooking column 5 and then passes sequentially through holding chambers 6 into a holding chamber-steam separator 7. The number of holding chambers depends on the plant's throughput and the grain grinding fineness. The mass moves through the holding tanks along the transfer pipes due to the difference in levels in the columns at the same pressures in the steam spaces of the columns, which is ensured by the equalizing pipeline.
