Maintenance on the maintenance vessel of the regulator on the ship usually consists in flushing the regulator, changing oil and eliminating oil leaks, adjusting the regulator
Wash the regulator and change the oil within the specified time frame and when removing the regulator from the engine .
Dirty oil causes most regulator problems, so washing the regulator and changing the oil are of great importance.
Washing and oil change without removal of the regulator from the engine are performed as follows
a) immediately after engine shutdown drain old oil from the regulator;
b) fill the regulator with diesel fuel,
c) start the engine and let operate for 1-2 min,
d) stop the engine and drain diesel fuel;
e) fill the regulator with clean filtered oil and restart the engine for 3 minutes.
f) stop the engine, drain the oil and re-fill the regulator with clean oil,
g) start the engine, allow to operate 2- 3 min with fluctuations at idle and perform adjustment of SCS.
It is recommended to fill the regulator with heated oil.
Make sure that during washing and oil change dirt does not get inside the regulator
When removing the regulator from the engine, washing is performed when the cover is removed by pouring diesel fuel into it and shaking it with subsequent replacement of diesel fuel with pure oil.
The addition of oil to the regulator more than 1 times a week indicates that the oil leaks through one of the oil seals. If there are no external signs of leaks, then the oil seal of the drive shaft, which passes oil from the regulator to the engine crankcase, is most likely or faulty.
When using the regulator, make sure that there are no foreign objects in the area of moving levers of the regulator output shaft and engine fuel rack. If there is a synchronizing motor, it is necessary to monitor the serviceability of the cable entry.
Maintenance of the regulator must be carried out by persons who are qualified and know the operating instructions not only of the regulator, but also of the drive engine on which it is installed. It is forbidden to perform preventive works on the regulator when the drive engine is operating.
Maintenance of electrical devices of the regulator (synchronizing motor, electric stop device, etc.) shall be performed by the electrician.
During installation and removal of the regulator, work should be carried out by two workers. The oil from the regulator must be pre-drained and the engine room plates wiped from the oil residues. To disassemble the regulator, it must be removed from the engine .
When starting the engine with the regulator installed again after replacement or repair, test starts at idle and control of the regulator heating degree with periodic control of the oil level in the regulator are mandatory.
During adjustment and running-in the drive engine shall be controlled by the ship's personnel. Before adjustment works, engine protection against spacing and regulator load limiter shall be tested.
