Description
Heat exchanger - a device in which heat exchange is carried out between two heat carriers having different temperatures. According to the principle of operation, heat exchangers are divided into recuperators and regenerators. In recuperators moving heat carriers are separated by wall. This type includes most heat exchangers of various designs. In regenerative heat exchangers, hot and cold heat carriers contact the same surface alternately. Heat accumulates in the wall when in contact with a hot heat carrier and is released when in contact with cold, as, for example, in the caupers of blast furnaces. Heat exchangers are used in the technological processes of oil refining, petrochemical, chemical, nuclear, refrigeration, gas and other industries, in energy and public utilities. The design of the heat exchanger depends on the conditions of use. There are devices in which adjacent processes, such as phase transformations, for example, condensation, evaporation, mixing, occur simultaneously with heat exchange. Such devices have their own names: condensers, evaporators, cooling towers, mixing condensers. Depending on the direction of movement of heat carriers, recuperative heat exchangers can be direct-flow in parallel movement in one direction, counter-current in parallel opposite movement, as well as in mutually transverse movement of two interacting media.
