Cleaning of castings from burning
Moulded castings have layer of burnt moulding mixture on their surface, from which moulding is cleaned in special units. During casting cleaning, the inner rods are also removed from the castings along with their fittings, refrigerators and other process elements of the mold. The following ways of cleaning of casting are most widely applied: in simple drums, drobemetny cleaning, bead-blasting, hydrosanding and manual.
After casting is knocked out in the cleaning compartment of the workshop, it is cut and cleaned. In most cases, the preliminary operation is to remove the runner system and profits. In grey and ductile cast iron castings, runner systems and profits are easily beaten off by hammer strikes, and this operation is usually carried out even during knocking out, before the castings enter the tube compartment. Runner systems of steel castings and non-ferrous alloys are more difficult to break off, and only of a small size. Therefore, they are separated from the casting using an eccentric biting press.
Tape saws are often used to cut runner systems and profits from castings made of soft non-ferrous alloys (alloys of aluminum and copper). The stretch of the runner system and the profits from non-alloyed steel castings are usually produced by a gas flame. For steels that do not allow the use of fire cutting (for large castings), round saws are used. The head in which the saw shaft rotates can be rotated and fixed so that the saw can operate at any angle of inclination of its plane to the horizon. Such saws have a disc diameter of 400-800 mm. Disk toothless saws are also used, the cutting effect of which is based on heating the cut metal by friction of a rapidly rotating saw disc, as a result of which the metal particles are painted. The cutting edge of the toothless saw disc has small notches. Toothless saw is insensitive to presence
on the surface of sand castings and burner crust. The diameter of the toothless saw disc is 7001300 mm.
To break off profits from homogeneous steel castings in large-scale and mass production, installations with hydraulic presses specialized for castings of this configuration are successfully used. Cleaning of castings consists in two operations:
1) cleaning the surface of castings from the added and burnt moulding and rod mixture;
2) removal of bays and irregularities, traces after cutting or chopping of feeders, etc.
Cleaning of castings with a shot is based on the abrasive and chipping effect of the shot on the surface layer of the casting, covered with a fringe and scale.
