The coursework REQUIRES:
(some items may be excluded at the instructor's discretion)
Select the type of dam (earth, rock-fill, stone) considering the method of dam construction and water passage during the construction period.
2. Choose the types of spillway structures (spillways and outlets) considering water passage during the dam construction.
3. Lay out the structures of the hydraulic complex on the general plan.
4. Outline the dimensions of the earth dam profile and the design of anti-filtering devices and drains.
5. Perform a filtration calculation for the cross-section of the dam at maximum height: determine the position of the depression curve, construct a hydrodynamic grid (graphically or using EGD - as instructed by the teacher), determine the filtration flow and exit gradients.
6. Check the stability of the dam slope on a computer and manually.
7. Choose the type of upper slope reinforcement and specify its dimensions (stone diameter or thickness of concrete slabs, length of reinforcement).
8. Select the grain composition of the back filters (transition zones).
9. Develop the design of the non-soil anti-filtering element (screen or diaphragm) of the stone dam in detail.
10. Develop the design for the junction of the dam with the foundation, banks, and concrete structures.
11. Perform a hydraulic calculation of spillway and water-conducting structures:
- determine the dimensions that ensure the passage of specified flows,
- resolve the issue of flow connection with the downstream.
13. Address the following work production issues:
a) establish the overall scheme and sequence of dam and other structures construction, as well as methods of water passage during construction, method of riverbed closure.
b) determine the types of barriers and their dimensions, as well as the dimensions of the berm during riverbed closure.
14. Conduct a hydraulic calculation of spillway structures during riverbed closure.
