The lever is the simplest mechanical device, which is a solid body (crossbar) rotating around the support point. The sides of the crossbar on the sides of the support point are called the arms of the lever.
The lever is used to obtain greater force on the short arm by a smaller force on the long arm (or to obtain greater movement on the long arm by a smaller movement on the short arm). By making the arm of the lever long enough, theoretically, any force can be developed.
