Actor's House

Typologically, the Actor's House is related to giant houses, representing vast residential complexes with a significant set of social and cultural facilities (laundries, canteens, nurseries, club rooms, shops, etc.). But the history of this particular house is closely intertwined with the history of the construction of the Rostov Drama Theater, with the life and work of many Rostov and metropolitan artists who lived in it, with the biographies of its builders, with the creative destinies of its architects. The Actor's House was built in the 1930s simultaneously with the new theater, the construction of which became a landmark event in the life of the city. Its dominant position on the new square connecting Rostov and Nakhichevan determined its spatial structure: the boundaries of the adjacent square, the territory of a giant park covering the theater from the north and east, the direction of the planned descent to the Don.
