WWER-1500 reactor

Description

The VVER-1500 is a high-power (~1500 MWe) pressurized water reactor design developed in Russia in the 2000s.

Main elements in the drawing:

Reactor vessel

Steel cylindrical pressure vessel - Vessel diameter ~4.5–5 m (increased compared to the VVER-1000) - Elliptical bottom

Vessel internals

Valve - directs coolant flow.

Baffle - surrounds the core.

Protective tube assembly (PTA) - above the core.

Core - ~241 fuel assemblies (FA) - Hexagonal assemblies

Upper block - Vessel cover with studs

Control and protection system (CPS) drives

Sensor nozzles

Nipples - 4 cooling loops

Coolant inlet/outlet nozzles

Note:

The VVER-1500 design was not implemented; the VVER-1200 (AES-2006 design) was developed instead.
